Monthly Statistics Report News Release

NAPLES, FL. -- The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association reported that its January 2003 Booked Orders Index was 108 down 40 points or a decrease of 27% from December 2002's Index of 148 (1990=100). The January 2003 Index represents a decrease of 44% from the January 2002 Index of 193.

January Booked Orders Indexes were 82 for Bulk Handling Equipment* and 99 for Unit Handling Equipment*(1990=100).

The Twelve-Month Index for Booked Orders was 125 in January. Index represents a decrease of 5% from December 2002's Twelve-Month Index of 132.

The CEMA Billed Sales (shipments) Index was 161 in January down 13 points or a decrease of 7% from the December Index of 174. The January 2003 Index represents a decrease of 18% from the January 2002 Index of 196.

January Billed Sales Indexes were 80 for Bulk Handling Equipment* and 147 for Unit Handling Equipment*(1990=100).

The Twelve-Month Index for Billed Sales was 172 in January. Index represents a decrease of 2% from December 2002's Twelve-Month Index of 175.


* Since Bulk Handling Systems booked and billed sales are reported quarterly, they are averaged back to the two preceding months to enable a running monthly index.
