Monthly Statistics Report News Release

May 2008

NAPLES, FL. -- The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association reported that its May 2008 Booked Orders Index was 121 down 16 points or a decrease of 12% from April 2008's Index of 137 (1990=100). The May 2008 Index represents a decrease of 19% from the May 2007 Index of 150.

April Booked Orders Indexes were 214 for Bulk Handling Equipment* and 87 for Unit Handling Equipment*(1990=100).

The Twelve-Month Index for Booked Orders was 152 in May. Index in May represents a decrease of 1% from April 2008's Twelve-Month Index of 154.

The CEMA Billed Sales (shipments) Index was 139 in May. Index in May is up 2 points or 1% from April 2008's Index of 137. The May 2008 Index represents a decrease of 17 points or 11% from the May 2007 Index of 156.

May Billed Sales Indexes were 204 for Bulk Handling Equipment* and 128 for Unit Handling Equipment*(1990=100).

The Twelve-Month Index for Billed Sales was 144 in May. Index in May represents a decrease of 1% from April 2008's Twelve-Month Index of 146.


* Since Bulk Handling Systems booked and billed sales are reported quarterly, they are averaged back to the two preceding months to enable a running monthly index.
