The
CEMA Conveyor Safety Program
In
an effort to promote standardization and safety in the conveying industry,
CEMA has developed a series of standardized safety programs oriented
around typical hazards encountered when using conveying equipment.
GUARD
REMOVED Safety Label
CEMA has developed
an Optional Safety Label to indicate that a Guard has been
removed and should be re-mounted before returning the equipment to
operation. It is designed to be placed inside the area that is guarded
so that it is exposed when the the guard is removed and is not exposed
when the guard has been properly replaced. There are other acceptable
practices to indicate that a guard is not in place such as different
color paint, exposed etching of the removed guard's proper location
and other techniques. Therefore, CEMA has simply provided this label
as an acceptable option for those who choose to use it as opposed
to other acceptable practices. As with all CEMA Regular Duty Labels
it is available in rolls of 500.

Exact placement
of the label is left to the individual manufacturer so CEMA does not
plan to issue any Placement Guidelines for this label. As stated above,
if chosen, it is to be placed inside the area that is guarded so
that it is exposed when the the guard is removed and is not exposed
when the guard has been properly replaced.
In
the area of Safety Standards for Conveyors, CEMA defers and refers
to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Association for Manufacturing
Technology, and OSHA to develop broad industry safety standards where
they can.

by the Association for Manufacturing

B11.19 2003 Performance Criteria for Safeguarding
This standard provides performance requirements for the design,
construction, installation, operation and maintenance of the safeguarding
(guards, safeguarding devices, awareness devices, safeguarding methods,
safe work procedures). This standard does not provide the requirements
for the selection of the safeguarding for a particular application,
though there is guidance provided. It is maintained by the Association
for Manufacturing Technology (AMT), formerly the National Machine
